We have seen a plethora of rumours regarding the dock connector on the next iPhone, but now speculation is suggesting that instead of the previously expected 19-pin connector, we could in fact see a 7-9-pin connector. French site Nowhereelse.fr have gotten their hands on shots comparing the iPhone 4S to what is supposedly the next iPhone. As you can see from the image above, the new dock connector is much smaller than the existing one, and based on size, would definitely not fit 19 pins.
Google translation of Nowhereelse.fr’s article:
One of the two other pictures that for once we have received in high resolution informs us that the new connector should be built into the iPhone 5 should be even smaller than we thought, miniscule compared with the current standard ! The photo in question is indeed the first of its kind on which we discover that a metal ring completes the connection port built into the framework of the shell that we have already seen at numerous occasions and whose authenticity was confirmed day by day … Fixing MagSafe magnetic type program?!
The metal ring seen around the connector could suggest some sort of MagSafe-like technology, although according to previous rumours, the connector will not use the MagSafe technology in any way.
