AllThingsD has now confirmed that Apple is planning a special event for September 12 (however, they do not mention anything about the iPad mini supposedly being unveiled on this date). This comes after iMore yesterday announced that they believe that the new iPhone will be released on this date.
AllThingsD bases this date on the spike in orders for components of the new iPhone.
