R.I.P. 17-inch MacBook Pro

After the unveiling of the remarkable Retina Display MacBook Pro, it is now apparent that the 17-inch model has been killed off by Apple. The 13 and 15-inch models have both been refreshed, but the 17-inch was not even mentioned during the Keynote, which definitely confirms it’s removal from the MacBook Pro family. In all honesty, the 17-inch model was quite bulky, and the size and inconvenience of the whole package did not fit in with the whole Apple aesthetic. Nevertheless, we are (sort of) sad to see it go, but see that its absence makes room for better things.

  2. The 17″ however is like a Ferrari for Fiat – bragging rights AND a necessity for some individuals out there that cannot lug a Apple Studio monitor everywhere… It would be perfectly suited for a similar redesign as the new 15″ MBP with Retina Display however, as yes, while an awesome piece of equipment, it was bulky by Apple Standards, but still smaller, thinner and lighter than most of the competition’s 15″ standard black plastic crap alternatives… Fingers crossed it comes back in the new form with results of a significant dietary visit…

    • I do agree that a slimmer and better 17″ MacBook Pro would be an excellent product, and maybe bring some competition to the Windows 17″ laptops that are out there at the moment. Although considering the price of the 15″ retina MacBook, the 17″ version of it would have a monumental price, that which would be comparable to the Mac Pro. It doesn’t seem like Apple to kill off a model and then bring it back, but you never know, they are quite unpredictable
